Impact of Implementing #PeriodCupCause for 1000- girls/women

Objective of PeriodCupCause:

The primary objective of the #PeriodCupCause is to promote menstrual hygiene awareness among both men and women. We also extend our support to underprivileged individuals who often struggle to afford menstrual cups, which are not readily available in local medical stores and are primarily sold online, limiting their accessibility. To fund our campaign, we organize informative sessions in various settings, including cities, organizations, schools, colleges, and privileged communities.

Achievements:

Our reach extends across 12 states in India, where we’ve conducted over 500 sessions, leading to the distribution of more than 4000 menstrual cups.

The impact of the #PeriodCupCause initiative by Upasana Society NGO, if successfully implemented by 1000 girls and women, would be multifaceted and highly significant:

  1. Menstrual Health and Hygiene Improvement: If 1000 girls and women using menstrual cups would experience better menstrual hygiene management. There will be reduced risk of infections and discomfort associated with traditional methods.
  2. Environmental Benefits: Over time, 1000 menstrual cup users would collectively reduce the use of disposable sanitary products, reducing waste. 9600 pads* 15 gms = 144 kgs/girl/women. So for 1000 girls/women, the waste reduction will be 1,44,000 Kgs. Fewer disposable pads or tampons would end up in landfills or water bodies, contributing to environmental conservation
  3. Economic Empowerment: Menstrual cups are a cost-effective solution in the long run.  1000 women and girls would save money that would have been spent on disposable menstrual products, leading to increased financial independence. 9600 * Rs.6/- = Rs.57,600/- for sanitary pads- vs Rs.5000/- menstrual cups. Thus, saving of Rs.50,000/-+. So for 1000 girls/women the total saving will be Rs. 50000000/- (5 Crores)
  4. Education and Empowerment: Improved menstrual hygiene ensures that girls can attend school regularly during their periods, reducing absenteeism. Enhanced education opportunities for girls can lead to better career prospects and empowerment.
  5. Community Awareness: The adoption of menstrual cups by 1000 individuals would create awareness within their communities. This could encourage more women and girls to make the switch to eco-friendly and cost-effective menstrual hygiene solutions.
  6. Reduction in Sanitary Waste: The cumulative reduction in disposable sanitary waste generated by 1000 individuals would contribute to a cleaner environment. It would also alleviate the burden on waste management systems.
  7. Health Awareness and Education: The initiative may lead to increased awareness about menstrual health and hygiene among the 1000 participants. They can become advocates for menstrual health, spreading knowledge and dispelling myths within their communities.
  8. Empowerment Beyond Menstruation: Beyond menstrual hygiene, using menstrual cups can instill a sense of empowerment and self-care among women and girls. It can serve as a catalyst for discussions about women’s health and well-being.
  9. Scaling Impact: The successful adoption of menstrual cups by 1000 individuals can serve as a model for scaling the initiative to reach even more women and girls in the future.
  10. Health and Environmental Consciousness: The initiative aligns with global efforts to promote sustainable and eco-friendly practices. It encourages a shift toward conscious consumer choices and sustainable living.
  11. Lower Lifetime Environmental Footprint: The production and disposal of menstrual cups result in a smaller carbon footprint compared to disposable products when considering their entire lifecycle.

In conclusion, the #PeriodCupCause has the potential to bring about positive changes in the lives of 1000 girls and women, ranging from improved menstrual health to reduced environmental impact. Furthermore, it has the power to raise awareness and create a ripple effect that extends beyond these individuals, ultimately contributing to more sustainable and empowered communities.
