Enhancing Mid-Day Meals: “My Own Plate” Campaign Triumphs and Phase 2 Prospects

Greetings from Upasana Society NGO! We are delighted to share an inspiring update on our “My Own Plate” campaign, a compassionate initiative aimed at addressing a critical issue faced by tribal students in the villages of Dahanu during their mid-day meals.

A Noble Journey Begins
Event: Steel Plate Donation Drive for Tribal Students in Dahanu
Date: July 7, 2018
Location: Dahanu, Maharashtra

Spotting the Challenge

Our dedicated volunteers, during their visit to the villages of Dahanu, were quick to identify a significant hurdle that tribal students encountered. While mid-day meals were provided, the scarcity of plates gave rise to a complex scenario:

  • Younger students received their meals initially, followed by plate washing.
  • Only once the plates were sanitized, older students could savor their meals.
  • This system delayed the older students’ access to warm food and extended their break times.
  • Even if famished, students had to wait for plates, directly impacting their nutritional intake.
  • Teachers had to manage the entire process to ensure timely breaks and meal distribution.

Phase 1: Transforming Lives

Responding to this challenge, we launched the “My Own Plate” campaign. With the immense support of generous contributors, we achieved a significant milestone in the first phase – distributing 200 robust Steel lunch plates to tribal children. The immediate impact was profound:

  • Older students were no longer subjected to waiting; they could now enjoy their meals while they were hot.
  • The entire meal distribution process became streamlined, benefiting both the students and the teaching staff.
  • The ripple effect of happiness and gratitude among the students was palpable, fostering a positive atmosphere.

Phase 2: The Next Leap

Buoyed by the success of Phase 1, we are thrilled to unveil our ambitious plans for Phase 2 of the “My Own Plate” campaign. Our aspiration is to extend our support by providing an additional 400 durable Steel lunch plates. This will further enhance the mid-day meal experience for these deserving students.

Your Continued Backing: The Key Ingredient

We wish to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our invaluable volunteers, and an extra special mention to Mr. Saurabh Kashalkar & Ms. Dipti Kashalkar for their unwavering commitment that played a pivotal role in the campaign’s triumph.

As we step into Phase 2, we emphasize the importance of your unwavering support. Your contributions stand as the bridge between these young learners and nutritious meals served without delay. Together, let’s forge a path toward sustainable, positive transformation.

Stay connected as we unveil more updates and progress on this compelling journey. In unity, we can tangibly change the lives of these students, continuing to construct a brighter and promising future for them.
