Prekking Asherigad Fort

Date: July 1, 2018

Location: Asherigad Fort, Palghar

Overview:

In the serene landscapes of Asherigad Fort, a group of 12 enthusiastic trekkers embarked on a mission that went beyond just picking up trash – it aimed to change mindsets. What they encountered was a startling revelation of human disregard for nature. Empty water and cold drink bottles littered the beautiful lakes, and the fort was marred by the remnants of a thoughtless party. The travelers had carried all the necessities for their gathering, yet they left behind a mess.

A Call to Action:

This experience underscored the tragic destructiveness of human actions. In response, the Prekkers, though a smaller group, were determined to make a change. Their message was clear: even one individual can ignite transformation.

Tools for Change:

Equipped with carabiners, reusable gloves, and cloth bags, the Prekkers set out to tackle the issue head-on. Carabiners allowed them to attach cloth bags to their backpacks, leaving their hands free to pick up trash. These cloth bags held a deeper significance – they were crafted by tribal women as part of Upasana Society NGO’s empowerment campaign, “Sui Dhaga Aur Kapda.”

Empowerment through Action:

The Prekking campaign not only sought to clean up the environment but also empower individuals to become catalysts for change. By using these cloth bags, they not only reduced waste but also supported the livelihoods of tribal women, reinforcing the idea that every action can have a positive ripple effect.

Join the Movement:

The Prekking campaign at Asherigad Fort was a poignant reminder of the urgent need to protect our natural treasures and change the way we interact with the environment. It’s an invitation for everyone to join the movement, embrace responsible trekking, and be a part of the change they wish to see in the world.

As the saying goes, “Humans, how tragically destructive we are.” Let’s prove that we can also be the force for positive change.
