Asherigad- prekking- 1 july 2018

Prekking – Asherigad Fort, Palghar, 1st July 2018

On the 1st of July, 2018, a group of 12 passionate trekkers from Upasana Society NGO embarked on an inspiring journey known as “PREKKING” to Asherigad Fort, located in the picturesque region of Palghar. What made this adventure truly remarkable was not just the thrill of trekking but the commitment to making a positive impact on the environment and the local community.

The Prekking Mission:

Prekking is not your typical trekking experience; it’s an endeavor that combines the love for adventure with a deep sense of environmental responsibility. While trekking through the Asherigad Fort area, our team didn’t just limit themselves to picking up trash – they went a step further. They actively engaged with fellow trekkers and locals to discourage the harmful practice of littering in this pristine natural landscape.

Challenges and Surprising Responses:

As our team interacted with trekkers and visitors, they encountered some surprising and disheartening responses. Many individuals seemed oblivious to the environmental consequences of their actions, casually throwing empty water and cold drink bottles into the beautiful lakes and surrounding areas. Additionally, some had brought all the necessary cooking materials for their outings and even resorted to burning wood for cooking fires.

The most shocking part was the aftermath of their gatherings. Instead of cleaning up after themselves, they left the trash right where it was, tarnishing the natural beauty of Asherigad Fort. This experience served as a stark reminder of the destructive impact that human actions can have on our environment.

The Power of One:

Despite these challenges, the Prekkers remained undeterred. The group, armed with carabiners, reusable gloves, and cloth bags, continued their mission to collect trash and raise awareness. Carabiners allowed them to conveniently hang the cloth bags from their backpacks, leaving their hands free for the cleanup.

Notably, the cloth bags used for trash collection were not just any bags – they were handmade by tribal women, a part of Upasana Society’s empowerment campaign, “Sui Dhaga Aur Kapda.” This initiative not only supports environmental conservation but also empowers local women through sustainable livelihoods.

Media Recognition:

The impact of the Prekking campaign didn’t go unnoticed. Times of India – Bombay Times (CLICK HERE) featured our PREKKING initiative on page 3 of their newspaper on the 2nd of July, 2018. This recognition not only highlighted the importance of our mission but also inspired more individuals to join the cause.

In conclusion, the Prekking Campaign to Asherigad Fort on the 1st of July, 2018, was more than just a trek; it was a testament to the power of individuals coming together to create change. Despite the challenges faced, the Prekkers demonstrated that even one person can make a difference. Through their efforts, they not only cleaned up the environment but also left a lasting impact on the mindset of those they encountered. This project serves as a reminder that small actions can lead to significant change, and every individual has the power to contribute to a better, more responsible world.
