RotiDaan Campaign:

Providing Nourishment and Support to Migrants during COVID-19

Introduction:

RotiDaan, a heartfelt initiative by Upasana Society NGO, aimed to alleviate the hardships faced by migrants and underprivileged individuals who were compelled to travel back to their hometowns or villages due to the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in Mumbai. The campaign brought together dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and compassionate community members to provide homemade rotis and nutritious meals to those in need. With the collective efforts of numerous individuals, RotiDaan successfully distributed over 7,000 homemade rotis and served food to more than 10,000 individuals during a span of 8-10 days.

Partnership and Contributions:

The RotiDaan Campaign was made possible through the support and contributions of volunteers, donors, and community members. Upasana Society NGO collaborated with societies in the Dahisar, Borivali, and Kandivali areas, where enthusiastic volunteers collected homemade rotis. Additionally, other donors generously contributed 1,000-1,200 packets of ready-made mixed vegetable, which were accompanied by extra spices to enhance the flavor. To combat the scorching summer heat, donors also provided packaged drinking water, along with biscuits for the children.

Distribution Process:

The dedicated volunteers of RotiDaan embarked on a daily mission to collect homemade rotis from each society in the morning. These rotis were then carefully packed alongside the vegetable packets, ensuring a wholesome meal for the recipients. The campaign recognized the urgency of the situation and strived to distribute the food promptly, catering to the large numbers of individuals leaving the city. By providing nourishment during their arduous journeys, RotiDaan aimed to alleviate some of the challenges faced by these migrants and underprivileged individuals.

Impact:

The RotiDaan Campaign had a profound impact on the lives of those affected by the COVID-19 crisis in Mumbai. The initiative addressed the immediate need for food and sustenance, offering migrants and underprivileged individuals a ray of hope during their challenging journeys. By providing homemade rotis and nutritious meals, RotiDaan not only fulfilled the recipients’ physical needs but also conveyed a message of compassion and solidarity during these trying times. The campaign exemplified the power of collective action and the importance of community support in times of crisis.

Special Thanks:

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the generous donors, as well as Mr. Saurabh Kashalkar and Ms. Dipti Kashalkar, for their invaluable contributions in ensuring the success of this campaign.
